Physics (Taught in English)
1. Overview
The physics discipline which is one of the three oldest disciplines in ZJNU was established in 1956. Up to the year of 2013, it has three undergraduate disciplines: Physics, Optical Information Science and Technology and Materials Science and Technology. There are totally 48 postgraduate tutors, more than 80% of them had Ph. D. We have educated more than 700 graduate students until 2010.
Master's degree in physics offers research program, and provides advanced knowledge in core areas of physics, including Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics, Acoustics and Functional Materials Physics and Devices, as well as one or more sub-areas of physics that correspond to your individual interests and career aspirations. You’ll work with program faculty to develop a tailored individual academic plan that supports your individual career aspirations.
2. Study Plan
The master program in physics is designed to provide flexible options that can be tailored to the specific career goals and disciplinary interests of students seeking graduate training in fundamental and/or applied areas of physics. The program is suitable as either a means to further career development or as preparation for further graduate study, with opportunities for an international academic exchange, pursuing their Ph.D. in either domestic or international institutes, or working in Schools, or working in an enterprise engaged in product research and development.
We offer research-focused master program of 3 years (no more than 5 years). Students will conduct research and produce a thesis as part of their studies.

4. Basic Requirements of the Degree Thesis
A. The student must select an advisor after admission and acquire 9 school credits.
B. The student must present an acceptable thesis of original scientific research in physics and defend it orally before the defense committee.

The notes for academic activity:
1. Every graduate student must give at least two public academic reports for graduate student of this discipline during the graduate and should participate in the public academic report at least 5 times every term. It will be the basis that whether graduate student gets enough credits for compulsory courses (Academic Activity(To participate in academic lectures and academic researches for 10 times and do academic report twice)).
2. Every graduate student should attend at least once domestic academic conference and do an academic report oral or poster during the graduate. The related materials should be submitted to the graduate secretary of the discipline and be archived.
