2025 Zhejiang Normal University International Workshop for Educational and Cultural Exchange

Education is not merely the transmission of knowledge but serves as a powerful engine for national development and a strong bond for global progress. In a nation's development, education is the fertile soil that nurtures talent and lays the foundation for prosperity. Education also plays a vital role in both preserving and innovating culture. It draws from the rich history and tradition, sparks creative energy, and allows culture to shine with the brilliance of the present as it is passed down through generations. Globally, educational and cultural exchanges serve as vital bridges, connecting nations and regions, promoting understanding and tolerance, easing conflicts and misconceptions, and creating a solid foundation for peace and stability, all of which help steer the world toward a brighter future.

In this context, Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU) is pleased to introduce the 2025 Zhejiang Normal University International Workshop for Educational and Cultural Exchange (the Workshop). The Workshop seeks to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the Chinese higher education system and its distinctive characteristics, encourage cultural exchange, and foster the development of their professional literacy. Leveraging the expertise of the faculty of education and excellent platforms like the National Teacher Education Training Center and Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Education Technology, the Workshop offers four modules: academic seminars, cultural experiences, practical explorations, and results presentation, ensuring participants a meaningful and memorable journey in China.


I. Workshop Theme: International Education and Cultural Exchange


II. Application Deadline: May 31, 2025


III. Applicants:

(1) Citizens of European countries or America;

(2) High school students or undergraduates planning to study or currently studying education, humanities, or social sciences;

(3) A good command of Chinese is preferred.


IV. Project Duration: July 7 to July 15, 2025


V. Cost Instructions: The organizer will cover the costs of accommodation, meals, transportation, activities, and insurance within China during the project, while participants are responsible for their round-trip air tickets, visa applications, etc.


VI. Application Procedures:

(2) The Workshop will accept 15-20 participants. Admissions will be based on a thorough review of application materials;

IX. Workshop Outline

(1) Academic Seminars

Participants will engage in lectures and seminars featuring experts and professors from both within and outside ZJNU. These sessions will cover the latest research and trends in Chinese higher education and the humanities and social sciences, with topics including international comparative education, modern Chinese education, innovations in educational technology, and the interpretation of educational policies. These activities will help participants broaden their academic perspectives, deepen their knowledge, and strengthen their understanding of related fields.

(2) Cultural Experiences

Participants will have the opportunity to explore a variety of inspiring sites, including the National Teacher Education Training Center, the Science and Technology Museum, and the African Museum on ZJNU. These visits will offer a firsthand look at cutting-edge educational technologies and foster enriching cultural exchanges. They will also experience the artistry of traditional Chinese ceramics at the Guwu Kiln, a Jinhua intangible cultural heritage site, gaining insight into ancient craftsmanship. Additionally, participants will visit Hengdian World Studios, Chinese version of Hollywood, to explore the charm of ancient Chinese architecture and feel as if they’ve traveled through time to witness China’s history come to life.

(3) Practical Explorations

Participants will engage in on-site research at primary and secondary schools, kindergartens affiliated with or closely linked to Zhejiang Normal University, and at Jinhua University of Vocational Technology. In the schools and kindergartens, they will observe classroom teaching, curriculum design, and teacher-student interactions, gaining an understanding of China’s emphasis on quality-oriented education and holistic development. At Jinhua University of Vocational Technology, they will explore the integration of vocational education with industry demands and learn about its role in developing practical, career-ready skills. Additionally, a trip to Jinyun County will provide a glimpse into the transformative changes in rural areas under common prosperity policy, offering a deeper understanding of the country's development progress.

(4) Results Presentation

A concluding session will be held, where each participant will present their study outcomes, such as a detailed analysis or new ideas of a particular aspect of Chinese education. Participants will also have the chance to share their cultural exchange experiences, reflecting on their understanding of Chinese culture and the friendships they’ve built with local students and residents. Through activities like cultural performances, photo exhibitions, and storytelling, the session will strengthen emotional connections among students from diverse backgrounds and promote deeper mutual respect and appreciation for each other's cultures.
