In the context of a new era, rural areas are no longer merely physical spaces for agricultural production but have become significant areas rich in ecological resources, deep cultural heritage, and unique lifestyles. Rural areas have evolved into key platforms for expressing nostalgic sentiments, achieving harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and promoting the development of diverse industries. As a means to enhance the quality of rural areas and highlight their unique characteristics, art and design play an increasingly important role. Against this backdrop, Zhejiang Normal University proudly launches the “Oriental Ecological Wisdom and Art Innovation Workshop” (hereinafter referred to as “the Workshop”).
The Workshop is based on the design and creative faculty team of the College of Design and Innovation at Zhejiang Normal University, as well as platforms such as the Zhejiang Normal University - Peking University Design Research Center, Rural Landscape and Culture Research Center, Future Community Brand Building Research Center, and Digital and Intelligent Creative Experimental Teaching Center. A series of targeted academic and cultural exchange activities have been designed. Through the Workshop, we aim to integrate resources from all sides, build on Zhejiang's rich achievements in the construction of Beautiful Villages, and provide participants with an opportunity for exchange and learning. The goal is to cultivate a group of highly-skilled, globally-minded, and culturally-aware design talents with innovation capabilities.

Non-Chinese citizens.
Recent graduates (undergraduate or master's degree) in art, design, communication, or related fields.
Strong interest in scientific research in the chosen field of study and a desire to pursue further graduate studies (PhD or master's). Applicants who have published papers will be given priority.
Proficiency in English or Chinese, with priority given to applicants with IELTS ≥ 6.0, TOEFL ≥ 100, or HSK 5 ≥ 180.

VIII. Project Content
This project focuses on the themes of rural revitalization and art-based rural development. Through international and interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange, the goal is to cultivate well-rounded talents with humanistic literacy, a deep connection to local culture, and innovative design capabilities. A series of creative investigation, study, and practical activities will be carried out to spark students' interest in art-based rural development, identifying outstanding international students who understand China, are interested in China, and are eager to pursue further studies at Zhejiang Normal University. The project is divided into three modules, with the main content outlined below:
Module 1: Academic Research
International youth and outstanding students from our university will be invited to participate in academic exchange activities, including special lectures and seminars. Experts, professors, and doctoral supervisors from the college will introduce participants to China’s and Zhejiang Province’s significant achievements in rural revitalization and art-based rural development. They will also share cases and results from Zhejiang Normal University’s research in rural culture, rural landscape planning and design, and rural branding.
Module 2: Field Visits and Exchange
Participants will be organized to visit Zhejiang Normal University’s museums and research centers for on-site exploration. Visits will include the Jinhua Panda Piggy Paradise rural creative project, Suichang County Museum, Tang Xianzu Cultural Museum, Haochuan Cultural Center in Suichang County, and the Black Pottery Cultural Center. Participants will gain an understanding of traditional Chinese culture, enjoy She ethnic group performances, and experience intangible cultural heritage creation.
Module 3: Project Practice
International youth and outstanding students from the university will travel to project practice sites for field investigations, research, and rural art planning and design. Teams will collaboratively create a group art piece at the project site. The project providers will evaluate the projects, issue certificates, and select outstanding projects for further implementation.
Module 4: Results Presentation
At the end of the project, participants will organize an exhibition showcasing their artistic rural development creations. They will share their achievements, insights, and reflections gained from academic discussions, visits, and practical experiences. The exhibition will summarize their learning and inspire further interest in research and study.
