Master of International Chinese Language Education (Taught in Chinese)

I. Discipline & Program Overview

The Master’s Program in International Chinese Language Education at Zhejiang Normal University closely responds to major demands for international Chinese language education and people-to-people exchanges between China and foreign countries, and aligns with the career path of international Chinese language teachers. Supported by a faculty team with extensive overseas experience and an integrated China-Africa training curriculum, the program adheres to the philosophy of “Inclusiveness and Harmony” — meaning inclusive understanding and harmony amid diversity. It cultivates high-level, application-oriented and interdisciplinary local Chinese teachers equipped with comprehensive 6C literacy and the knowledge and competency framework of “Five Integrations”, who are competent in Chinese language education and cultural exchange across various countries and regions.

The 6C literacy framework refers to:Chinese(Profound command of Chinese language knowledge), Culture(In-depth understanding of Chinese and foreign cultures), Communication(Competence in cross-cultural people-to-people exchange), Comparison(Capacity for comparative study and mutual learning of civilizations), Compassion(Devoted passion for Chinese language teaching), Commitment(Sense of responsibility for international Chinese education); The “Five Integrations” represent integrated capabilities covering:Linguistic fluency, Cultural comprehension, Emotional connection, Professional proficiency, Interdisciplinary expertise.


II. Duration of Study

The program has a standard duration of 2 years, with a maximum study period not exceeding 5 years. The learning process consists of three sequential phases: the intensive coursework phase in the first academic year, the teaching practicum phase in the third semester, and the graduation thesis writing phase spanning the third and fourth semesters. In concrete terms, coursework is completed within the first two semesters, whereas teaching practicum and thesis writing are arranged over the following two semesters.
