I. Overview
The Zhejiang Normal University African Museum covers an area of 2,000 square meters, with over 400 square meters initially put into use. It integrates high-quality collections of African art, academic research on African civilizations, and public education about African culture, aiming to substantially promote cultural exchange, dialogue, and scientific collaboration between China and Africa through sustained platform development and investment in both hardware and software. The museum's interior design harmonizes aesthetic appeal, academic rigor, and collection value, conveying the powerful and moving beauty of African art while reflecting the museum’s dignified and elegant scholarly character. The exhibition features more than 500 outstanding artifacts, including African musical instruments, ritual objects, weapons, furniture, farming tools, masks, wooden carvings, pottery, stone sculptures, bronze works, clothing, silverware, textiles, and various daily-use items. Additionally, the museum includes a dedicated exhibition space for Makonde art from Africa. Most of these artifacts were collected from traditional villages in remote regions of Africa, preserving their authentic cultural essence and everyday atmosphere, offering unique exotic charm and significant research value. These exceptional cultural treasures are now permanently housed in a university museum in China, providing the Chinese public with a distinctive window into African civilization.
