International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship


    International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

    To satisfy the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitate Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the
    Scholarship). Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers for the study of International Chinese Language Education or related majors at Chinese universities and colleges (hereinafter referred to as “host institutions”).


    I. Eligibility

    a) Non-Chinese citizens;
         b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
            c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;
            d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;
         e) Aged between 18 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2024), with a special allowance for the age limit of 45 for applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers and that of 25 for undergraduate student applicants.



    II. Scholarship Types and Qualifications

    Applicants shall hold a Master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, linguistics, international Chinese language education, or education-related disciplines. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 200 on the HSK Test   (Level 6) and 60 on the HSKK Test (Advanced Level). Applicants should have more than 3 years working experience. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.

    Master’s Program

    2 years

    (Register in September 2024)

    International Chinese Language Education

    18-35

    Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution or relevant proof upon completing their studies in China.

    Undergraduate

    International Chinese Language Education

    Applicants shall hold a high school diploma and a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 on the HSKK test   (Intermediate Level).

    One Academic Year Program

    11 months

    (Register in September 2024)

    International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible.

    International Chinese Language Education

    18-35

    HSK (Level 3) -270

    and an HSKK test score is required

    Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and     Chinese Philosophy

    HSK (Level 4) -180

    HSKK (Intermediate Level) -60

    Chinese Language Training

    Priority will be given to applicants who provide an   HSKK test score.

    One Semester

    Program

    5 months

    (Register in September 2024 or March 2025)

    Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

    International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible.

    B. Cooperative Scholarships

    The application requirements and funding period are the same as above. Select "Cooperation Project" when applying.

    III Scholarship Coverage

    The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, monthly living allowance (except for four-week students), and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China. The amount of living allowance is 2500 yuan per month for undergraduate students, one-academic-year students, and one-semester students. For a Master in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, it’s 3000 yuan per month.

    Confucius Institute students should register on time according to the admission notice, otherwise, the scholarship will be canceled. Students who register before September 15 (including September 15) can get the whole month's living allowance, and students who register after September 15 can only get half of the living allowance for this month.


    IV. Application Procedure

    From March 1, 2024, applicants could log on to the scholarship's official website (cis.chinese.cn) and submit the application materials online. Select Zhejiang Normal University to apply. Pay attention to the application process review comments, and check your email regularly. We will contact you for an interview within 1-2 weeks. The winners will go through the procedures of studying in China with our university and come to the university for registration within the prescribed time.

    The application deadlines are

    a) May 15th (for programs commencing in September 2024)

    b) October 31st (for programs commencing in March 2025)

    Hanban will complete the scholarship review and publish the results three months before the enrollment of the scholarship winners.


    V. “Chinese Bridge” Award Recipient Policies

    Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2023 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their CIS certificates.


    VI. Disclaimer

    1. Incomplete or unqualified applications will not be processed.

    2. Applicants will be disqualified from the application in case of fraudulent application materials or application materials are completed and submitted by someone else.

    3. Scholarship winners who cannot register with the host institutions on time should inform the host institution about the reasons in written form within 15 days before the admission date. For those who do not register as requested without reason, the scholarship will be canceled.

    4. Scholarship will be canceled for those who do not pass the admission physical examination, drop out, or take schooling suspension during the study.
