International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship


    International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

    For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the
    Scholarship). Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers for the study of International Chinese Language Education or related majors at Chinese universities and colleges (hereinafter referred to as “host institutions”).


    I. Eligibility

    a) Non-Chinese citizens;
            b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
            c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;
            d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;
            e) Aged between16 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2022), with the special allowance for the age limit of 45 for applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers and that of 25 for undergraduate student applicants.


    II. Scholarship Types and Qualifications

    A. Chinese Language Teacher Programme

    Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK   test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution or relevant proof upon completing their studies in China.

    Undergraduate

    Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of   Other Languages (BTCSOL)

    Applicants shall hold a high school diploma and a   minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 on the HSKK test   (Intermediate Level).

    One Academic Year Program

    11 months

    (Register in September 2022)

     International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible.

    Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

    HSK (Level 3) -270

     and an HSKK test score is required

    Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and   Chinese Philosophy

    Chinese Language Training

    Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

    B. Cooperative Scholarships

    The application requirements and funding period are the same as above. Select "Cooperation Project" when applying.

    Master in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages-----20 Students

    Bachelor in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages----20 Students

    One-year Chinese language Students-----60 Students

    C. Scholarship for Online Programmes
            a) Online Programme for One-Academic-Year Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. A general Chinese proficiency test score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) is required, and HSKK scores are preferred.
            b) Online Programme for One-Semester Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. Generally, applicants must have an HSK score (no specific requirements for level or score).


    III Scholarship Coverage

    The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, monthly living allowance (except four-week students), and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China. The amount of living allowance is 2500 yuan per month for undergraduate students, one-academic-year students, and one-semester students. For a Master in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, it’s 3000 yuan per month.

    Confucius Institute students should register on time according to the admission notice, otherwise, the scholarship will be canceled. Students who register before September 15 (including September 15) can get the whole month's living allowance, and students who register after September 15 can only get half of the living allowance for this month.


    IV. Application Procedure

    Online registration will be available from March 1, 2022, on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn). Please log on to find recommendation institutions and host institutions (the Agency Number of ZJNU is 10345), submit application documents online, track the application progress, feedback of review, and admission results. Scholarship winners shall confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the CIS certificate online, and register at host institutions on the designated date as per the letter of admission.

    The application deadlines are

    a) May 15th (for programs commencing in September)

    b) November 15th (for programs commencing in March 2023)

    Hanban will complete the scholarship review and publish the results three months before the enrollment of the scholarship winners.


    V. “Chinese Bridge” Award Recipient Policies

    Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2022 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their CIS certificates.


    VI. Disclaimer

    1. Incomplete or unqualified applications will not be processed.

    2. Applicants will be disqualified from the application in case of fraudulent application materials or application materials are completed and submitted by someone else.

    3. Scholarship winners who cannot register with the host institutions on time should inform the host institution about the reasons in written form within 15 days before the admission date. For those who do not register as requested without reason, the scholarship will be canceled.

    4. Scholarship will be canceled for those who do not pass the admission physical examination, drop out, or take schooling suspension during the study.
